So, I had to be convinced by a friend to do this. I really didn’t want to but…I need a break. A long one. I wanted to finish up this batch of NotC chapters but I’m just in a very bad place right now. 2025 has been one of the worst years of my life and I think my mental state has started to effect the quality of my writing. How long will I be gone? Probably at least a month. That’s how bad things are. I just feel so drained and like I have to force myself to write. No writer ever wants to admit this but I am burnt out. Not out of ideas. Just out of the drive to do it. I’m sorry.

Rent a cabin or beach house somewhere, turn your phone off, buy a few physical books, and just spend your time reading, thinking, walking, running, hiking, bike riding, eating, and drinking for a bit. Even if it's only for a weekend here and there, jump off the always connected world and tune everyone out so you can recharge.

Your stories have been a gift that has kept on giving. So, if you need time for your own wellbeing I say take as much as you need. You should always come first before us here on the board. I will just start over from the beginning of your story while you are away. Look after yourself and hopefully when you feel better, we will see you again. Until then I wish you well and hope you feel back to normal soon.

You don't need to apologize to us; you've been by far the most consistent writer. But if writing isn't currently a way to cope with the pain, I do think a break is necessary. Take all the time you need.

Take your break, Yuri. You really deserve it. Posting dozens of chapters so consistently is no joke. You have earned your rest. You don't have to hate it. After all, before any of us readers enjoyment, your peace and comfort is more important.

We shall still be here whenever you come back and I know all the characters in your stories will come back with a bang. (pun intended)

writing is not an on/off switch for me.

i have long periods of time in which i can not write. the ideas are there, but the willpower is not. and if i force it out...it reads like crap.

when i have no will to write...i usually need to read...and read...and during that time the will to write will slowly begin to resurface.

most people on this site have noticed that i go long periods of not posting any stories.
it is like i need to recharge my batteries and there is no quick-charge for my writing batteries.

just sharing that information as a form of encouragement to take the time off and it that is perfectly normal.

Yuri, you're one of the most prolific, consistent writers on the board. In fact, you are definitely the most prolific and consistent! If I had half your energy, I would feel a lot less guilty! Don't apologize. Take the time you need for yourself.
